It IS one of the nicest looking cars ever made, and I don’t really need the Subaru anymore....

I love e38’s but, I can’t wrap my head around the V12 only having 40ish more hp and 50ish more tq than the V8. Doesn’t make sense to me.

It’s not about the HP, but the smoothness.

They are pretty archaic, and those V8s can make so much power with a $5,000 supercharger kit. The M70 was essentially two M20 engines dating back to 1977 connected by a common crankshaft as a V12, and the M73 is simply a lighter version of that overweight design; not the most effective setup but certainly hard to match in smoothness. The succeeding N73 V12 is the only V12 put in a BMW I really can care about as it revs high as any NA V12 should and makes tons of torque somehow.

The V12 is SOHC and a dated design. It is intended for smoothness and effortless torque. The V8 was under rated so that the 750il could still be the flagship seven. Some owners put decent dyno numbers with the V8 more than the 285hp and assuming a 15% drivetrain loss.

You also apparently don’t need your life savings anymore either.

I get that, I guess it’s because when I think of V12 I always think of insane super cars and AMG’s. Not smoothness.

Get an E32. I always loved their body shape, especially the rear, probably because I like the rear of the E38 less so...
